LIVING MARKS / OGDEN

An Art & Movement Workshop

This collaborative community art project is made possible through The Nine Rails Creative District Grant

Artist Application For the April 28, 2019 Ogden Workshop is CLOSED

Deadline: April 12, 8:00 PM

Location: Ogden City Library, Auditorium Room 1

Date: April 28, 1:00 - 4:30 PM

Apply to participate in a drawing and movement collaborative art project. In this afternoon workshop artists will explore the concept of duality through gestural figure drawing of yoga postures. A final public art exhibit will be created from the works produced during the session.

Requirements: Figure drawing experience, willingness to share and discuss works in progress and participate in a collaborative group creation process. Local Ogden and emerging artists are encouraged to apply.

Artists contribute the mark making portion of the workshop, by responding through drawings to the yoga postures choreographed as an exploration of the concept of “duality.” Drawn marks will be shared during the workshop and discussed to explore the energy expressed in the movement and its visual translation. Drawings will be photographed following the workshop, and will inform final works for a public art exhibit. Artists retain all of their own work, but the final works derived from photos of the drawn marks created during the process will be attributed to all group participants as a collaborative work.

Photography and or video and drawings will be displayed online and a public art exhibit derived from the drawings will be displayed in the Nine Rails Creative District.

PROCESS

The concept is selected by the producer and at least 1 other group member determining the direction of the workshop. Concepts may be abstract of concrete, simple or complex, for example: cycles, feathers, inner vs outer, symmetry, or growth.

The movement expert designs a 2 hr movement, meditation and discussion session (yoga asana or choreography) in a physical exploration of the concept.

Workshop participants convene to explore the concept through movement, discussion and drawn marks.

The art director selects one or many of the drawn marks for reproduction and exhibition.

The producer and art director collaborate to create final presented marks.

The producer and documenter(s) collaborate to create final documentation pieces.

Works and documentation are shared.

CONCEPTS

The intention of the workshop is to provide a rich co-creative experience to all participants, and to create a mark that not only contains all of the energy of the process, but is itself that energy.

Related concepts: co-creation, qualities of art form (spoken, movement, drawing), physical translations, teaching and studentship, participation and observation, “how(process)” and “what(drawing),” pinnacle moments.

Shared Ownership: Each artists will retain possession and ownership of his or her individual works, which will be photographed at the end of the workshop. Each entity in the group will have ownership, and sharing rights for all digital final works exhibited and shared, including documentation. Any works shared publicly must be attributed to the group members, either individually, or through reference to the group project. All physical works produced by the project will be retained by the project, unless otherwise determined by group consensus.
